Spring is in the Air!

Well,  it's about time to get one of the gardens started. Our home is in Northern AZ just below the rim at 6300 ft. We don't have a very long growing season due to the unpredictable weather. March is the month I put in our "cold" crops. We usually start the lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, radishes, beets, and carrots.  The other crops don't go in until after Memorial Day depending on the last frost.  It never fails that we get a freeze in late May. In May we plant the squashes, tomatoes, peppers, and beans.  I love to can so I plant a lot of tomato plants. I can salsa, whole tomatoes, and spaghetti sauce to enjoy throughout the year.  We have strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries as well.  We also have a young crop of asparagus, maybe 2 years old. I can't wait until that starts producing. We have 3 apple trees, 2 pear trees, and 2 peach trees.  All the gardens and trees have to be fenced because of the elk and deer that frequent the property.
As soon as we start tilling the soil I will post some pictures.
Happy Gardening!
